The war between the Pandavas and the Kauravas is a “knot” and the books that make up the Mahabharata are called parvans, “knots”just one of the innumerable stitches in the weave of everything with everything.
Though the individual passages are often dazzling little gems in their own right, the way they are worked together into a larger mosaic is just as impressive.

After reading aclasso depth analysis in this book, I doubt I will ever be able to think of the horse sacrifice as just a interesting device used in the Ramayana so that Ram could met his twins. I do not know if anybody has said so much in such brevity on this topic. As if he realizes some may have diffuculty relating to the material, Calasso occasionally robert a comparison to western references. There have been occasions when I have used this book as a remedy for my insomnia.

Books by Roberto Calasso. You will become aware that someone is following you, like an animal in the forest, only now in the darkness of the heavens. On the ground before her, Garuda saw, lay a great tangle, slowly heaving and squirming.
Ka decodes Hindu myth in a style that might be scandalous to the fascists. While I enjoyed the journey, a part of me Ka is both exhilarating and exhausting to read.
All that is preface to the Indian epic Mahabharata. Great book for those interested in diving into the mythologies of India. Some really scandalous bits though. Ka does it really well. An absolutely beautiful book- though has some moments I caladso could have been condensed.
