No trivia or quizzes yet. The Heretic is a three-part novel, beginning with ‘The Early Years’. I do not know how I got through this book. Business and, for a while, domestic life, satisfy Deibes, but this is also a world in mibuel religion — and dogmatic hegemony — are being challenged. The title of the novel suggests — and the English subtitle reinforces the idea — that The Heretic is very much A Novel of the Inquisition.

Luther, Calvin, and the like. An opening Prelude, set inwhich has the title character, Cipriano Salcedo, travelling back to Spain with outlawed books Luther, Melanchthon, Erasmus, the Bible as the Inquisition rages certainly offers that but the book quickly jumps back in time, and it’s many pages before heresy and the Inquisition are again at the forefront.
From the start his father abandons him and he is under the care of his wet-nurse Minervina.
Ana rated it it was ok Mar 13, The book isn’t truly surprising, but it is also far from predictable, a confident writer taking his time — while keeping the reader in suspense — in leading to his conclusions. And though this is the story of a heretic, I never gained miguell sense that Cipriano ever had a strong inclination to religion at all. Not only was it grotesque in its failed attempt to portray anything even remotely related to human life, but it also became entirely unbelievable as a historical fiction. herejf
SergioMar rated it it was ok Aug 21, At a certain point I did not really care if Cipriano was just a victim of a certain type of mentality. Not once did I feel as if I migkel being transported to the time of Inquisition in Spain. The novel is dedicated: Thanks for telling us about the problem.
